In 1994, Hydro-Quebec decided to dismantle two steel pylons
running and supporting a 450 kV tension line over the St-Lawrence River.
The challenge concerned particularly the dismantling of a 142 meters (465') pylon located
on a 75 x 50 meters man-made island in the middle of the river.
To achieve this challenge, the sub-contractor, DEMEX Inc. from Chicoutimi, Quebec, used
the Hydro-Mobile scaffolding system. Two platform units, combined with a telescopic crane
and ladders, were then ascended to windswept heights.
Respecting the schedule, 314 metric tons of steel were dismantled.
